New Producer Drops: Plugins, Gear & DAW Updates

Analog Obsession dropped TheBus, a free analog-style compressor built for gluing a mix bus together without the CPU hit of some of the heavier console emulations. Free analog-flavored bus compression is rare enough that this is worth grabbing just to A/B against whatever you're currently running.

zplane pushed out PEEL STEMS 2 with noticeably better real-time stem separation. Clean stem pulls used to mean a trip to a paid service and a coffee break waiting on render time. If this holds up in real sessions, it's a legit shortcut for chopping acapellas or isolating a sample's drums without destroying the tone.

The KVR Developer Challenge is also live again, and this round has 50+ free plugins on the table from smaller devs pushing new ideas. I always dig through these because the weird, less-polished entries are often where the interesting sound design tools hide.

What I'm actually running right now

Still leaning on a stock saturation plugin plus a transient shaper for most of my drum bus work in Knoxville sessions this week, keeping the chain simple so I'm not fighting plugin latency on a laptop rig.

Worth downloading this week

Grab TheBus if your mix bus chain needs more glue without more plugins to manage, and check the KVR bundle before the challenge window closes. If you want a second set of ears on a mix once you've got the tones dialed in, book a mixing or mastering session at owlspec.com/services.
